We have drywall!

We had our pre-drywall home inspection about a week and a half ago.  Nothing too earth shattering.  The inspector said everything was really minor and he communicated it all to the PM and within a day it was all fixed!  The 2 most noteable things were there were probably 3 or 4 places that when they went to nail the exterior sheathing to the studs almost all of the nails completely missed the stud!  So if a strong wind were to come by, the outside part of the wall would have shook.  And there was a spot in the living room where they had cut a hole in the floorboard for the heat registers that must have been in the wrong location and when they went to close it up, the just stuck another piece of floor board there that was really that secure and the inspector said that over time it wouldn't have held up.  But all in all, I would say it was a good report.

And for those of you still building and wondering about the inspection, I would say 100% to do it.  If for nothing else, just to have some piece of mind that the home you are building is being built the way it should be.  We'll also have a final inspection done by our home inspector a few days before our final walk-through.

I got a call last Friday (week before July 4th) that they would start putting up drywall that next week.  We went by the house on Friday (July 5th) and all of the drywall was up and SURPRISE so was all of our siding and stone!  I was not expecting that and was very pleasantly surprised :-)

Pre-Drywall Walkthrough - CHECK!

We did our pre-drywall walkthrough on Tuesday afternoon.  It only took about a half an hour.  Nothing major, just finalizing locations for cables, extra outlets, recessed lighting, etc.  Most of this we had already decided on so it was basically just confirming the locations with the PM.

We've had quite a bit of rain lately here and they have been trying to schedule our roof to get put on, but the rain keeps holding things up!  So when we walked through the home, you'll notice some water all over the place.  Hoping this doesn't affect the integrity of the build??

It was so amazing to actually walk through OUR home and see all of our ideas beginning to come to light.  Cannot wait to start seeing the finishings put into place!

We are supposed to have our home inspection next Thursday or Friday, but need to confirm that timeframe with our PM tomorrow.  HVAC, plumbing, electrical and cable should be going in this week and the early part of next week!

Our SR just sent me a picture...it actually looks like a house now!  Can't wait to drive by this weekend!!!

Long Time, No Blog

I've come to realize that I'm really not good at keeping up with this blogging thing!  A lot of progress has been made since my last pictures even with all the rain we've been having here.  Most of the framing is complete and they have been trying to get our roof put on for the past few days and the rain keeps interrupting.  Hopefully our SR will be sending me an updated pic with a roof on today!  If not, we plan to stop by tomorrow morning.

Our pre-drywall meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday at 12:00pm.  It will be nice to actually walk into house and start to feel things coming together.

We met one of our neighbors last weekend who also built a Rome.  It was nice to finally see it in the reverse layout and with the Morning Room.  The model that we've seen here didn't have either of those and it was hard to picture.  Seeing their home just made us fall even more in love with ours!

Oh and we have a settlement date scheduled!!!  Provided there are no major delays we will be closing on our house on August 14th at 10:00am!!  I guess I can add one of those countdowns to my site now :-)

Quick Update

Just a quick update...we got an email the other day that our lumber was delivered over the weekend and they are going to begin framing this week, woohoo!  Maybe now things will start to feel more real since the progress will be easier to see!

Also, I took a pic of a house in the neighborhood that has the same Elevation E.  The stone wasn't added yet when I took this pic and the dumpster is blocking some of the view, but you can get the general idea.

Hopefully next time I will have some more, exciting pictures!

Boy things move fast!

We had our pre-construction meeting about 2 1/2 weeks ago and I came armed with my list of questions, thanks to all of the blogging community!  Nothing too crazy, mostly just basic questions that I wanted to double check on.  I think my biggest disappointment is that they do not install a back-up system on the sump pump.  Having come from a house that had quite a few water issues in the basement because of that very issue, we were not that happy.  However, it is something that can easily be added after the fact, so I guess it's not that big of an issue.  During this meeting we did add a few more electrical outlets, but pretty much everything else was correct and went smoothly.  They informed us that we were to begin construction the week of May 13th, woo hoo!!!!

Fast forward a week or so and I had driven by the lot to see that they had indeed begin digging!  This picture was from Tuesday, the 14th.

I got a call on Thursday from our SR and PM just to update us on the progress.  Turns out that they had actually started the digging at the end of the previous week.  The foundation was in and they were pouring our concrete that day and the plumbing groundwork would be going in the following week.  We drove by on Sunday with the kids and saw all of the progress.

I met my first neighbor via the blog too!  Turns out that they are the lot right next door to us!  We're probably about 2 weeks or so behind them, so it's nice to see how their progress is going as well.  When I drove by on Tuesday it didn't look like they had any of the framing above ground done, but by Sunday it was totally up!  Boy do they move fast!
